Chin-Chean Yong won the men’s race in 9:48:26, 1 hour 4 minutes 54 seconds clear of Jay Morfoot in 10:53:20. That margin was 3.5 times the gap behind Morfoot, who finished 18 minutes 30 seconds ahead of Andy Wardell in 11:11:50. Esmee Price-Coates took the women’s race in 11:10:03, a time that would have put her ahead of Wardell and onto the men’s podium. Elizabeth Nairn, who won here in 2023, was second in 12:26:44.
Women made up 25.4% of the finishers, a higher share than at more than four in five races over the distance. On a start list where women are usually a small minority, that put this race toward the top of its kind.
The field itself was smaller than it has been. Its 118 finishers were fewer than last year and fewer than the race usually brings home.
The front of the women’s race and the front of the men’s sat far apart. Price-Coates was more than an hour behind Yong, since Morfoot alone finished that far back. Through the middle of the field the distance between them had largely closed: the median woman finished in 15:41:30 and the median man in 15:11:04. The women’s race was narrower at the back as well, with its slowest finisher well inside the time that closed the men’s.
The field’s median age was 46. The chart below sets each finisher’s time against their age, and shows how far the pace changed from the youngest runners to the oldest.
The last woman came in at 17:44:19. The last finisher overall reached the end at 18:52:08, after the 18:00:00 limit, which was published but not enforced to the second. Yong had been finished for more than nine hours by then, the whole of a long day’s running separating the first man home from the last.
